How to get there: The Barbu Vacarescu one is easy to find being opposite the Stefan Cel Mare metro station. The one on Delea Veche is a little out of the centre but can be reached on a 70 bus from Universitatea or a 79 from Piata Romana. The one on Episcopiei is reached by turning right along Str. George Enescu as you walk from Piata Romana southwards towards Universitatea, then taking the first left.
Review: This chain of four restaurant is something of a ingenious business plan for this country - good food at cheap prices, relying on bums on seats rather than on gleaning every possible penny out of any poor sod who wanders in. As a result these restaurants are extremely popular and I would recommend booking in advance unless you intend to get their early.
The food is the usual selection of Romanian dishes and the quality is good, if not spectacular. Strangely I've always found the Delea Veche branch to have better food, although menus are technically the same. The Barbu Vacareste branch is smaller and seems to always be either too hot or too cold, and in addition it doesn't have a terrace unlike the other two I've been to.
All-in-all it's good value with a fair selection of meals cooked reasonably well with adequate service. It's not going to blow your mind, but if you just want a decent filling Romanian meal without shocking your wallet then this is the place. Good also for groups.
